The hike starts at the Visitor Center of the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Park in Ponte Cappuccini, following a trail that immediately enters beech, maple, and hornbeam woods. The air grows cooler and filled with fragrance, while the gently rising path invites a steady pace.
After about 3 km, the forest opens up, revealing the imposing silhouettes of Sasso Simone and the nearby Sasso Simoncello. The ascent becomes steeper, alternating between mule tracks and natural trails, until you reach the base of the limestone plateau. The final stretch, almost flat, leads to the summit of Sasso Simone—a place suspended in time, where the Medici Fortress City once stood. Today, only faint traces remain among the vegetation, while the view stretches from the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea on clear days.
